OREGON: H.O.P.E. Workshop (Helping Others Provide Empathy) – Wednesday, May 23 6:30-8:30 pm

Are you recently diagnosed with breast, ovarian, or other women’s cancer? If so, please come to this special two hour workshop where we explore some of the issues you and your family are likely to face together as you go through treatment. Newly diagnosed patients, as well as their spouse/partner/kids or best friend are invited to participate. Please call Becky at 503-598-89048 to reserve your space. We will talk about the importance of support and examine ways that that your friends, family members and others can support you through your journey.

The “40-Something Cowgirls” Raffle Quilt & Donate $450 to Breast Friends

OREGON: Co-Founder Sharon Henifin participated at an event in Dallas, OR, last Fall and met the dedicated “40-Something Cowgirls.” According to member Kim Chandler, “We’ve raised our families and now is our time to enjoy our horses! and still contribute to the community.”

Kim feels “Cancer touches all families in one way or another, and several of our members are Survivors,” so they created a quilt to raffle at the NW Horse Expo. Other chapters across the U.S. were enlisted to make blocks, and “everyone had so much fun.” They have tried donating to larger organizations, “but we are so small it truly seemed unappreciated.”

Breast Friends knows that feeling: We, too, are so small and trying to do a lot with a little budget. We truly appreciate the efforts of each of the cowgirls and their very generous donation of $450.

If you enjoy crafts, share something you’ve created and you just might inspire others to give it a whirl. If you have a favorite book, bring it along and tell us why you like it so much. And, if you like to cook, bring a recipe – and samples, of course! The purpose is simply to get together and connect with each other.
