Workshops/Retreats

Breast Friends is at the forefront in helping women survive  the emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis.  We not only embrace and encourage the patient at the beginning of treatment, but once treatment concludes, we’re also here encouraging women to embrace a new “best life” and fulfill their dreams.  In order to provide the continuum of care to take the patient from the point of diagnosis and the beginning of treatment, to the end of treatment and beyond, Breast Friends has created two new workshops.

Coming soon – H.O.P.E., Helping Others Provide Empathy,  is a three-hour workshop for the newly diagnosed patient, and her spouse, children, or friend; whoever is likely to go through the journey with her.  In this workshop, we will explore the varying roles of each person in her recovery.  We will talk about issues that may surface, and examine ways to provide support, not only to the patient, but to the friends and family members closest to the patient.

Our new Thriving Beyond Cancer “Survivorship” program implemented by Breast Friends is beneficial for women who are transitioning from treatment, feel stuck, or desire a more rewarding, satisfying and joy-filled life after cancer. “Thriving Beyond Cancer” utilizes life coaching principles to help map out a clearer path and focus on thinking outside the box. Sharon brings 18 years of personal experience and expertise to enhance  “Survivorship” experiences and encourage the patient to move forward .  The workshop is offered around the country as a two day format. Depending on location, it may also be offered as a week-end retreat, or once a week for four weeks.

H.O.P.E. – “Helping Others Provide Empathy”

Coming in Spring 2012

Just as a stone hits the water, creating a ripple, a woman is diagnosed with cancer causing a chain reaction that impacts her loved ones.  Knowing what to do to help a newly diagnosed patient can be challenging.  Unless you’ve been through it before, its unlikely you will have all the answers.

This three-hour workshop will be held for newly diagnosed patients and her friends, family, spouse and/or children.  In the workshop, we will explore the unique experiences that are common to those who are just starting their journey.  We will talk about the importance of support and provide tools to help others support her through her journey.

Breast Friends will be introducing this new workshop in early 2012.  For more information please call

Thriving Beyond Cancer Workshops/Retreats

New this year… Breast Friends is excited to introduce our new “Thriving Beyond Cancer” two-day workshops or retreats. This workshop is for women who have completed their cancer treatment in the last couple of years and are ready to move onto the rest of their lives.

“Thriving Beyond Cancer” is presented in a workshop-style environment that aids participants in the transition from cancer patient to survivor and beyond. Once a woman finishes active treatment she may feel both relieved and anxious. This can be very confusing time for her and for her friends and family. She was actively fighting her disease; now she is “done.” Her support system is pushing her to return to normal, but the patient feels different than before – her “norm” has changed.

It is important to have the opportunity to talk about these issues in a safe environment, and it is equally important to learn how to move forward. This workshop gives the survivor the tools to face her fears and proactively move toward her new life.  It is designed to help women embrace what they have endured and give them the power to decide what their future looks like, allowing them to live life more fully.
