BREAST FRIENDS AVAILABLE SERVICES
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, our
support line is manned by breast cancer survivors, who are ready to lend comfort, support
and information anytime you need it. Even if you are out of our area, just use the
convenient toll-free number, and
someone will be there for you. In the rare instance you get an answering machine, we will
give you other numbers
to call. We also check our messages every half hour, so you will be getting a call back
almost immediately.
Volunteers are available during the day and
early evening to make home visits to recovering breast cancer patients. We can sit and
keep you company for awhile or help you with simple household chores. Whatever you need,
we are there.
Transportation can be arranged to and from physician
offices, hospitals or other treatment centers. Prescription, medical records or equipment
pick-up for homebound patients is also available.
If you desire, a Breast Friends
volunteer can be with you in the hospital before surgery and while you are recuperating.
We can keep you company during a lonely moment, or take over for a family member who may need a break.
Just give us a call!!
Chemotherapy can take from two to three hours to
complete. Breastfriends volunteers are available to provide companionship during this time
or to take over for a relative or friend who cannot stay the entire time.
One of the most difficult challenges a family must meet is facing
their own fears about their loved one's situation. Whether they need emotional
support to deal with their own feelings or want help understanding their loved one's
condition, Breast Friends can help. We can provide peer support for husbands,
family members or friends who want to be involved but are having trouble knowing how to
help.
During a home visit, using our laptop and portable
computer, we can "surf" the net together for information on any breast cancer
topic you choose! Now you can have the information highway at your fingertips right in
your own home!
Referrals to physicians (for patients without a physician or for
patients wanting a second opinion) and referrals to other miscellaneous breast cancer
related services are available.
We have a modest collection of information and
education pamphlets and videos for your perusal.
